The male Athlete-of-the-Year is senior Nick Richardson. He was one of two athletes this year to play four sports. In the fall, he became the starting quarterback for the football team and did an outstanding job. Nick was instrumental in helping a first year program contend for a 3rd place league finish. He was selected as an Honorable Mention All-League quarterback as well as the team MVP. He also played a little soccer in his spare time. In basketball, he was one of the teams leading 3-point shooters and a team leader. Nick broke the school record for most three-point shots made in a single game (unfortunately, it was broken again later in the season) when he hit 7 three points shots. He got hurt during the district playoffs and missed both of those games and the sub-state games which really affected the team. His leadership was unspoken. Nick was voted as an Honorable Mention All-League player. In track he really surprised everyone. He was the district champion in the 400m (as well as a new school record holder), runner-up in the 200m, broke a school record in the javelin and was part of the team that broke a school record in the 4x400 relay. At the state meet, he ran a school record time in the 400m to become the State Champion in that event. He placed second in the 200m and helped the 4x400 relay to break a school record and place second. He was very instrumental in helping lead the boys team to the school's first ever team State Championship.
The female Athlete-of-the-Year is sophomore Ali Brauer. Ali becomes the second underclassman to win this award in as many years. In the fall, she blew away the cross country school record last year and qualified for her second state meet in as many years. At the meet, she finished 9th, her second consecutive Top 10 finish. In the winter she was instrumental in starting the school's first ever HS swim team. Being an accomplished swimmer, Ali took 2nd in the 500 freestyle and was the district champion in the 200 Individual Medley, qualifying her for the state meet in both events. At the state meet she took 4th in both of her events (200 IM and 500 Free). In the spring, she was once again one of the top distance runners in the league and state. She qualified for the state meet in both the 1500m and 3000m runs. At the state meet she finished in third place in the 3000m run and in second place in the 1500m. She was one of only two girls on our PLS team at the state meet that helped lead our team to a 9th place finish out of 36 teams.
